Is it usual for an RFD to send a firearm to another RFD via Express 48?

I was under the impression Parcel Force forbade it.

The reason I ask is that last Wednesday an RFD sent my firearm to my usual RFD and sent me a tracking code.
When I tried to track the parcel it came back with:

Service: Express 48
Tracking status: Advised
We have no tracks for your parcel yet. The status of your parcel will be updated in due course.

When I phoned my RFD on Saturday it had not arrived. He's closed on Monday so I can't check with him until Tuesday.

However, it seems to me that five days later the tracking system ought to at least report the current whereabouts of my firearm - even if it's just sitting in a hub somewhere. I'm starting to get a tad uneasy.

I've left a message with Parcel Force but haven't had a reply.

RFD types can use Parcel Farce.
Us mere mortals are forbade Parcel Farce by the folk that think they know better (apart from non-FAC airguns)

Us can instead send S1 & S2 guns by Royal Snail (1st class as minimum service, I prefer to use recorded/next day or similar). Minor snafu here is the max. BOX size comes into play.....so send in a TUBE!!

I had a similar thing happen to me last month albeit not with a firearm.
The goods I had coming to me got delivered late and when I checked the tracking company web site it wasnt even showing it had been picked up let alone delivered!
I cant remember the courier but it was one of the biggies.

Re the tracking. The Offishul site is bobbins....i use a Russian site. Something like trackitonline.ru
Works on ALL mail/courier/shipping data.

The advised status likely just means he has booked the parcel and printed the label. If he had dropped it off or had it collected yet then that is what I believe the status would be. Wouldn't worry.

I was under the impression that rfd's best practice is not to send firearms out on anything but a Monday Tues or weds, otherwise your gun is sitting around a warehouse somewhere, consequently it could get nicked......
