The Revision of the EU Firearms Directive Status report
Well laid out update on the EU's anti gun ownership agenda in the wake of the Paris atrocity.

Some good work has been done on heading of the worst of the commission's anti gun ownership outrages but still stuff has been squeezed in, no doubt in the "spirit of compromise".
I wish we had such active and effective representative bodies in this country to fight our case as they seem to have on the continent.

Quite a few continental types have a good memory of their being denied ownership following regime change & installation of a dictatorship....in very recent history.
The Czechs would be a good example of this....as would the Finns.

Thanks for posting that. I think Vicky Ford and her colleagues have done a good job, even if the outcome isn't everything we wanted.
The prospect of a Europe-wide database of firearms owners worries me. That will soon be hacked and all over trhe dark web.
And this is precisely why I voted to leave the EU:
"One would expect Parliament, as the only EU body made of elected representatives, to decide the final version of the Directive. However the Byzantine nature of the EU’s structure and its
rules grant the unelected Commission power over Parliament itself by allowing it to have the final say whether it accepts the result of the Parliamentary vote. If in the negative, it refers the
amended text to Council, which must approve it through a unanimous vote by all twenty-eight countries – clearly an impossibility by all standards."

Indeed, again. It's not referred to as The Fourth Reich for nothing, which has always perplexed me with the enthusiasm for an ever more Undemocratic Federalised EU by most in mainland Europe given they had that option in place 75 odd years ago......Racalman wrote: And this is precisely why I voted to leave the EU:

This is why so many european countries that have governments come to power by violent regime change have victim disarmament laws regarding "military calibres". The cheapest way for a dissatisfied population to obtain arms is via military surplus.saddler wrote:Quite a few continental types have a good memory of their being denied ownership following regime change & installation of a dictatorship....in very recent history.

Don't worry. This data base will only cover us naughty types who legally own firearms for lawful purposes, criminals wont be affected.Racalman wrote:The prospect of a Europe-wide database of firearms owners worries me. That will soon be hacked and all over trhe dark web.

Mickhail Gorbachev said said something very similar a while back as to his being at a loss about why western Europeans were so hellbent on adopting a regime of the type that the Russians had finally and thankfully escaped from after some 75 years of over centralised tyranny.
