Its finished, and what a job this guy has done on it. I am not sure if I am going to get this in the Colt Grey, or to leave it as is, any suggestions ?

It was originally a Sabre defence A2, now with some bits from the U.S and some mods and a year in the waiting, it is now a circa 1963 M16 Vietnam Era conversion UK legal.

here are the pictures of what it looked like a year ago

Wow that looks good now, colour wise...Hmmm, I would say the grey but either way it is going to look good. Are you coming to BR this weekend?

Very interesting! I assume the upper has been modified to straight-pull? Was it really cheaper to re-profile a heavy barrel than buy a fresh pencil barrel? I would imagine that's a lot of work! Personally I would leave it black and definitely avoid Duracoat...

Certainly has, and the lower was already a straightpull, just the cosmetic machining on the outside.

No idea on the barrel, but umming and arring about the colour - it would have to be stripped and reanodised again which I dont know if I can bothered to do.

I didn't realize lowers needed to be modified as well, what's different about straight-pull lowers versus standard ones?

Sorry mate I didnt elaborate. The lower was made from scratch as a straightpull (thus no components or capability to make it semi or burst) The uppers do not need to be modded as an upper alone cannot make a straightpull fire as a semi burst or full , its all in the lower.
