I can.. my weekend smallbore shooting cost me £4.50. Again we see a shooting organisation only interested in their own discipline.
Give it enough time and none of us will be able to shoot in the UK.

Shooters and their Associations really MUST stick together on ALL matters shooting..
Pity they (doctors and powers that be) are not so efficient and thoughtful when it comes to people having kids - and their fitness to do so - given the horror stories in the news.
"Parents" still hurt more kids than guns yet various agencies fall over themselves to place or keep kids in seriously dangerous environments, usually with tragic results - irrespective of all the evidence pointing to a tragedy in the making!

It's silly as all of us are tax payers who regularly pay into the system and probably take very little out, in addition we pay for our certificates and get a dreadful service as a result. Both the police and GP's are funded by our taxes, how they have the right to act like this is beyond me.

This is the reply I left on their thread with a correction to a shotgunist who seemed to think 'Firearms Licences' was a thing and was berating other comments on the thread for lack of specialist knowledge
Correction to the below statement from somebody who participates in shooting sports both rifle and shotgun, there is no such thing as a Firearms License! It is a Firearms Certificate, it says as much on the top left hand side of the front page of a Firearms Certificate. Can those who participate in Shooting sports make sure they fact check their statements when they are berating others for lack of specialist knowledge or understanding.
The issue for people who participate in shooting sports is:
1) We already pay a fixed fee to the Police when we apply or renew our Shotgun or Firearm certificates
2) The fee we are now being asked to pay by our GP is on top of what we are asked to pay to the Police to process our Firearm or Shotgun certificate
3) The fee we are being asked to pay by our GP is not fixed and appears to be down to the whim of that particular practice
4) I appreciate that a GP might have a conscientious objection to guns but that does not matter one iota to me, shooting sports are not illegal in this country. If I am of sound body and mind, have completed the correct paperwork, paid whatever fees I am required why should my application for issue or renewal be prevented because of your PERSONAL hang ups
5) If your personal hang ups on the matter are so strong that you can't bring yourself to return a letter even with a payment simply stating "I have no issue with the application" then the onus should be on you the GP to pass the paperwork to another GP who can sign that piece of paper and not further impede me going about my lawful business
6) We are not asking GP to do this, the Police are. As mentioned we pay the Police already to process our applications for issue or renewal, the fee we pay them is laid out and fixed. The fee our GP is asking us to pay is not fixed, how can that be seen to be fair? If we are to pay a fee direct to our GP then it should be properly debated and a fixed fee accepted by all parties involved and implemented

It seems that there is a point when Doctors and Opticians are obliged to notify the DVLA when they consider a patient is unfit to drive .
The patient is not charged for this !
This is part of the GP's guidance from the GMC .
4. If patients continue to drive when they are not fit to do so, you should make every reasonable effort to persuade them to stop. This may include telling their next of kin
5. If you do not manage to persuade patients to stop driving, or you are given or find evidence that a patient is continuing to drive contrary to advice, you should disclose relevant medical information immediately, in confidence, to the medical adviser at DVLA
6. Before giving information to the DVLA you should inform the patient of your decision to do so. Once the DVLA has been informed, you should also write to the patient, to confirm that a disclosure has been made

I feel one of the major underlying issues for me is the BMA producing conscientious objector letters for their members when considered against points 4, 5 and 6 in my list.
I don't care if they as a GP have a conscientious objection to guns, they are allowed that opinion but as far as I am concerned it ends when it impedes upon my rights to go about my lawful business!
If they can't bring themselves to sign off saying "No objection" the the onus is on them to pass it to a GP who can, if they can't even do that what is my right to redress to the Practice or the Police who I am also paying to process the application?! Do I go to the Police, the Local Health Trust? Why should I even be doing that if I am of sound body and mind, paid up the fees and are now being prevented going about my lawful business?
Why are the BMA creating letters for their members preventing me going about my lawful business?! How is that fair or even ethical? We are being asked to operate within the law they are providing support to the members to prevent us doing that!
