Good evening chaps,
Does anyone have one of the following scopes, and if so what do you think?

I have a choice you see, a nightforce comp, march 60 or 80 or this one:

Am looking at doing FTR comp etc at 1000 yards and it will be sitting on a savage 12 ftr in 308.

Hi,

Just put one on top of my shiny new Dolphin FTR, I'm impressed so far but it's only been out on the zero range. Will be testing it out at 1000 in a couple of weeks, will update then.

Yep - I have one on my F Class gun. Any of the three will make weight with a Savage FTR but the March is lightest.

If the Nightforce Competition, March 10-60 and the Vortex Golden Eagle were all the same price, I'd pick the March - but they aren't, so I picked the Golden Eagle.

Realistic comparison at 1000 yards didn't show any difference optically.

Quick update now that I've got a few shoots under my belt with the Vortex. Very pleased with it, love the reticle, good optics, nice positive clicks and a great price.
Now, how to read the wind....

Just to let everyone know I will be updating this with a proper review of the scope when I finally get my FAC, have purchased the scope mind you!

Initial impression wise so far it looks good just holding it and looking through the class, obviously cant tell anymore than that i.e. magnification as I couldn't hold it steady enough! The focus was uber stiff though, to the point of it wouldn't move, until I had given it some brute force wiggling!

I have just bought a march 10 x 60 high master scope. It is mounted on a savage FTR.
last night was my first shoot at the club.
it was only at 200 yards.
I can only say it this scope is amazing!!
I have never seen such big and clear bullets holes in the target!
any tiny lines etc on the target were clearly visible,

I went to Diggle a few weeks ago and looked through a vortex golden eagle HD along side a march 10 x 60 ( not the high master )
Both scopes were mounted on rifles.We were at the 600 yard firing point. We did not fire the rifles.
On this day the weather was raining heavy and very overcast.
To me an ideal day for testing scopes.
lets face it, a lot of scopes work fine on a bright day.

Both scopes were good but to me the March was better. The optics on the high master version promised even more.
The dials etc on the March turned easy and smooth, the clicks very positive and everything well finished.
The dials on this vortex were very stiff.

Having now shot with the high master version to me it is better.

A few club members looked through the scope last night and were VERY impressed.
I am very very pleased with it.

shoppe - I have no doubt that the March is better however when you compare the prices of the Vortex Golden Eagle (£1,667.50) and the March (£2,792.39 – £3,069.59) is it £1000+ better? I am all for spending £££ and buying the best however I also want to get value for money at the same time; could you honestly say that the improvements you saw when looking through the optics is worth £1000+ extra, which equates to 3/4 of the cost of the rifle I plan on buying incidentally! :)

Not familiar with that particular scope, but I have a couple of Vortex optics on an AR15 (Vortex 1x Spitfire Illuminated Prism Scope) and on a Ruger 10-22 (Diamondback Tactical 3-9x40). They are really popular in the US and here in NZ. The general opinion (and one which I share) is that they are good scopes at a reasonable price. To get anything better you really have to move up to the big names and the big prices. I'm just afraid as their reputation increases, so will the prices.

it is hard to sent huge money on a scope. To me i felt is was worth it.
I also factored into my purchase that there hardly ever seems to be second hand march scopes for sale but plenty of vortex scopes for sale.
When a march scope does come up for sale it is snapped up quickly.
My thinking is if , i do sell it ,it should have plenty of interest.

Many many many years ago i spent £1000 each on two Schimdit and Bender scopes. ( PM 2, 10 x 42 )
At the time this was huge amount for a scope.
Once I started using them I never once regretted spending that money. they are both still perfect.
in 2002 i bought a pair of swarovski binoculars ( 8.5 x 42 EL ). again a lot of money at the time . Again still going strong . Never once regretted it.

like a lot of optics you need to spend money to get the quality , that is the point i am trying to make.

is the march quality better than the vortex?

the vortex i tried had very very stiff dials to turn , in fact I thought one had seized!!
If it is not right brand new , when will it be good?

Was it worth spending £1000 more on the March ?

On that really heavy day of rain I could see the difference and that made up my mind.
