So after a very enjoyable day at Ponteland range today (including coming third in a sporting rifle competition firing a friends rifle [oh, and being placed higher than him!!!!]) I was cleaning my Uberti 1873 when I turned it over. With the lever open, there are three screws on the metal tang coming from the receiver down the stock. The first screw seemed to be standing proud so I picked up a screwdriver, gave it a full turn and heard a "click". Now the trigger doesn't work!!!!

What could I have done??? Broke a spring??

Yep, you could have done. The mainspring strain screw goes up through the bottom tang...

Yep, that's the mainspring adjusting screw you've wound in......

There are plenty of Uberti 1873 disassembly videos on Youtube, but if its needs a new mainspring and screw, nows a good chance to take it to A&A and get an action job done on it clapclap

I had a chat to them at the shooting show and they quoted £350 just to make the lever action shorter and slicker!!! Mine already feels, or felt, quite slick! Now I feel quite sick!!!

IIRC, don't you have the Competition version the same as mine...?

If so, you don't need a short stroke kit (which is about 250 quid) as the Competition version has a factory short stroke kit. Yes, its not as short as the aftermarket ones fitted by A&A, but its still shorter than a standard lever stroke. The factory short stroke lever throw is about half way in between a standard and an aftermarket one, which is fine for almost everything except full on speed CASS events. One of A&A's actions jobs should be about 80-100 quid from what they told me at the show. I'll be taking mine there soon for an action job only.

Mmmmm, don't know if mine is a competition model. I bought it secondhand and I think it has some age to it and thought it was just a carbine model.

Aah, no yours is not a Comp model, must be someone else on here with a Comp model. I know there is someone with a 357 Comp model, can't remember who it is now.

So, yes, a full short stroke kit with action job from A&A is that price, largely as because of the exchange rate of the cost of the short stroke kits they have to import from the USA.

Ah right! Well I intend taking it (and the Marlin .22 lever action as the lever locked in the open position this morning and is solid so I haven't had a good weekend!!!) back to the guy I bought them off as he is a gunsmith so should hopefully be able to sort them out for me.

Marlin 39 takedown? Undo the takedown screw all the way. Over something soft like the sofa, swing the but sideways towards your thigh with a little effort. The two halves will split and the bolt and extractor will land on the sofa with the receiver/stock assembly. It's jammed because the takedown screw had become loose and was so when you cycled the lever...

Is this a take down???
