Ok you have a barreled action/gun . You want to re use the action the barrel is shot out. You are not a registered fire arms dealer how do you get rid of the barrel and retain the action legally.

If you are not a Registered Firearms Dealer you cannot have either the action or the barrel without them being entered on your FAC. If the gun was yours and on your FAC take the barrel to the Police and get a variation from XYZ rifle to 'Action of an XYZ rifle'.
If it's Sec 2 Shotgun it is not a problem and you can surrender the barrel to the police or a registered RFD and keep the action.

If its a Section 1, then source a barrel blank to suit.
Only becomes an FAC component when chamber reamed on it.
You (or an RFD) can destroy/remove the pitted barrel, making sure to render it out of proof (cut chamber off, etc.)
Fit the blank, ream the chamber & fine tune accordingly.
If a ready to fit barrel, scrap/remove the junk one, surrender it & get the variation to allow purchase of it. Or get an RFD to do this. Latter will cost more & you'll need to send it for proof. Fit the barrel yourself & you choose to proof or not, as for personal use. It'll need proof if subsequently sold on.
If a section 2, totally different.
Barrels can be held without SGC, so very easy to source & fit new ones.
They can be posted to you directly too.
A dismantled shotgun also ceases to be an SGC item.
(sounds nuts but it's there in the Firearms Act)

Alpha, speak to your FEO and tell them what you want to do, they may even confirm they are happy to allow you to remove an existing barrel and replace it with like for like (In writing") Alternatively people like Bedfordshire will issue slots for spare barrels in like and alternative chambering which means you can simply remove one barrel and fit another.
