Adding my listed Firearms to my son's FAC

Myself and my son (aged 21) have been shooting for quite a long time, as I am in my 50s I would like to leave my firearms to my son incase anything happens to me and have them added to his FAC. I had a very quick chat with my FEO who said as long as he can show good reason for having them then it should be ok, sureley the good reason was shown when the slots were acquired and the rifles purchased, your thoughts please.

Wouldn't be easier to just make a change to your will, specifying them and leaving them to your son, and then he can apply for the slot variations whenever that day arises.
Or are you giving up shooting now, and giving them to your son that he needs to add them to his FAC now?

" sureley the good reason was shown when the slots were acquired and the rifles purchased"
That was your good reason to be able to purchase the rifles NOT your sons, he just has to show good reason to have them added on his FAC I would have thought.

Do you shoot the same things / places?
If you had good reason I'm sure he can aswell .
I'd say it was better to get them on his before the time comes so he doesn't have the hassle of giving them to an rfd or the police taking them. While he waits for the slots

My partner and I both shoot, and we have eight rifles on both certs as shared.
We each have our own favourites, which get used most of the time, but we both get to shoot them all.
This was accepted without raising any eyebrows.

Hi Pete,
When you or your Partner purchases a gun does the other have to pay to have it put on their license to shoot it? I have the same with my Father, and if he buys a gun its added to my FAC FoC, but if I want to shoot it then it costs me the variation fee.

Strange - didn't think they differentiated between having access to a firearm and actually shooting it.

The wording is to allow access to a shared CAB, transport those firearms, but if you want to use them then technically you need a variation to fire it as far as I am aware.
My police force / licensing team are really good, I have no complaints about them.

Thanks for all the replies so far, my son still lives at home, we do all our shooting together. When he had his initial grant they added what I already had to his FAC, the main one being the section 1 shotgun which as you all probably know needs to be on your FAC before you can shoot it. At no point has he been told he can't shoot any of the rifles, as far as I know it's only sec 1 shotguns and LBP and LBR that need to be on your FAC to shoot them. Also when he turned 18 I rang to confirm that he can have access to the cabinet and was told yes no problem, so looking at the comments so far are there grey areas that need clarification. I would have thought if my son does exactly the same shooting at the same time as me then he has the "good reason".
