Range Armoury Build

What will the FLO want as the construction requirements for an armoury at a slightly remote range?

Unattended buildings with no resident.
Rural location but next to a lightly used main road.
Committee members are local resident~2 miles.
Buildings are probably sectional or timber construction.
There is mains electricity.

What could we suggest as a build for an armoury for 3~5 cabinets 6-10 rifles max each, 0.22" only, area alarm on the room / door, micro-switch in each cabinet, internal ammo bolt safe, limited ammo quantities.

Anybody use a range with an armoury in it & how is it constructed / protected?

The HO security booklet gives good specifications and this what firearms certification will refer to and and assess your plans against.

See here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... dbook-2005

Then speak with your certification department.

Why not contact your FLO in the first instant and ask for their advice, maybe arrange a site visit so they can see first hand and give you their requirements from the outset?

Have done that & its in progress but wanted a wider view to compare & be informed when we do meet.

Timber construction would be my first worry not least for the risk of some scrote setting it on fire.
We had to have a monitored alarm so you'd need a telephone line.

Thanks read that we are thinking a composite scheme:

Range complex layer 1 fence / gates & external PIR.
Layer 2 Wooden club house construction with internal walled & locked area as a 'gun cabinet room' i.e.its walls will not be the external walls of the club building:
Building alarmed & PIR.
Layer 3 Concrete floor & central reinforced brick wall within the secured internal room with 2-3 gun cabs bolted to each side.
Internal room walls/ceiling meshed & hardened door per the regs suggested. Inert kit tin lockers on end walls.
Internal PIR & door micro switch. to area alarm (mobile phone monitored alarm)
Each club can have its own code so a micro switch in their actual BS steelgun cabinet door means they can only open their own
cabinet.
Cabinet Keys not kept in the building.
Max 10 x 0.22" rifles per cab & limited ammo in internal save box within cabinet.
The range will be used 6-7 days/week.

Any comments? Thoughts? welcomed

You can have GSM Monitored alarms now so the need for a hard wired phoneline is mitigated.

I can't see away of hiding a particular post from public view, perhaps Christel can as she delves deeper into the abyss than I do.

As far as I can see the thread would need to be put into one of the member only access forums like Jokes or GoM.

You could remove the specification and have it available to people via PM, not ideal I know.

Thanks probably counter productive to have it in GOM!

will be careful with details posted so we only discuss concepts / pros & cons & may ask you to archive the post & delete it later?
