I know someone who had an inline BP rifle delivered directly from France to his door!

Should be no issue having it delivered to your friendly RFD.

Piece of cake provided you get your paperwork sorted beforehand. Especially so if you drive over and use Eurotunnel.

You will obviously need a space on your FAC for when you return to the U.K. and a EFP to cover you when in Europe. If you scan these along with the relevant pages of your passport and send them to the gunshop they will sort out the necessary reporting documents at their end. My experience is based on buying rifles in France on two separate occasions.
Though you report your new acquisition to U.K. customs in Calais when returning they only make a note of it and it is up to you to notify your constabulary within 7 days of your return. On both occasions my constabulary requested that I complete an entry in my FAC and they dealt with it when my certificate was next returned to them for variation or renewal. The dealer in France obviously reported the sale and eventually his paperwork works its way down the line to the British authorities.

Have a chat with your firearms department to explain what you intend to do as they can be very reasonable and accommodating if asked beforehand.
