Which rifle/shotgun for an investment?

#1 Post by HMR »

As the jolly old ISA is running at .05% I am thinking of a shotgun or rifle as an investment, new rather than old, unless mint. The purchase will be well cared for, but I still intend to use it occasionally. I'm more drawn to a shotgun as high end seam to hold their price. I would like a big game rifle, but if there's an odd change in the law regarding ownership, it may loose value! And it's use will be limited. I'm looking to spend around £20,000 maybe more for the right gun. If I'm right, high end Perszzi keep their value?

Will anything bought new be a serious investment - as 20% of new price is tax?

I suppose it depends on how long your willing to keep said 'investment'.

For £20k I'd be buying a mint L42 and/or 4T :good:

I would have thought watches would be a 'safer' (not that there is much a thing) investment, just look at the value of older Rolex's (maybe too late for them now), Omega is up and coming in the auction houses: All depends how much you can risk: it may go up but it may also go down in value too.

I have it on good authority that the Ruger 10/22 is a sleeper and will rocket in value over the next 5 years.

You can buy mine now for just £2k.

Guns are not an investment in the U.K. A friend who was a dealer, sunk a considerable amount of money, well over six figures, into Lugers, Borchardts, Steyr Hann and Mauser. Some stunning examples. All wiped out with a legislators pen....

As mentioned, high end watches would be a better investment.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Genuine Rolex or Omegas are a better investment they dont normally ban watches.

If you are going to invest in firearms / watches / fine wines be aware of what is being faked and find a reputable dealer or have the item checked by an expert. There are quite a few fake No4T sniper rifles out there as well as a lot of dodgy watches.

spread your investment over a number of guns maybe or just buy ones you can shoot enjoy and that will hold there value ...

for me £20000 + would be going towards a property for rent ,the property over 10 years should make 10%+ and the rent after costs tax etc should pay for it all .
