Help! Bolt size for shooting table bolt

Afternoon :)

Just about to sell my shooting table and somehow the bolt that holds the rifle support arm has vanished :(

Going by the others it's larger than a 1/4", about 7-8mm diameter but a non-metric thread.

Here's the table showing the arm, the bolt with a wing nut goes up through the arm and into a threaded bush in the bottom of the table. It's circled.

I have no idea :) All I know is an M8 fits but is the wrong thread and 1/4" falls in the hole :)

I've emailed A1 Decoy where I bought it from to see if they can help.

Works great but it's quite heavy, about 18Kg if I remember correctly. This gives me a problem getting it onto certain ranges, if my son isn't with me I simply can't manage everything.

I did make one or two modifications, you can remove the existing padded top and fit a larger top bench to it, the annoying thing is the way it locks into position, it has a sprung pop out "button" for the seat (which is OK) but the one for the main locking is a real PITA to get back in so you can collapse it down again, I simply removed it and just shove a 10mm bolt through the holes, works perfectly and comes out easily when needed. If you forget the bolt a car key, 223 case etc. will do the job just as well.

Is it the same size bolt as the one shown in situ in the picture the one with the plastic knob on if so I might have some similar I can send you.

It certainly could be, that one measures 7.5mm dia. It needs to be about 1.5" to allow a wing nut or something on one end to turn it with, 3/4" to go through the tube and about 1/2" to 3/4" to screw into the bushing in the table.

I assumed it was a 1/4" coach bolt but that's too small and drops straight into the threaded insert/bushing that's in the table top.

It's the same one as the Midwest Tactical Buck-Sites one that Midway sell.

Given that, it originates from the USA, and as said above it will almost certainly be a UNF thread - as Waterford103 says, probably 5/16 UNF.

Why don't you remove the bent bolt and replace with a metric one that fits, M8?

If the hole is threaded then you will either need the correct bolt or re-tap to suit.
