Does anyone have any views on the UK legal Savage AR15s good, bad or otherwise?

Are you referring to Sabre Defence?

Well, I've shot two: one which I owned (briefly before returning it) and another belonging to a clubmate. Both were charging handle driven, 20" HBARs.
The clubmate's gun was nicely finished, shot well and consistently extracted - it was a good gun. The one I owned was poorly finished, with misaligned stampings, a great deal of upper and lower slop and wouldn't feed worth a damn. It chewed up cases on feeding and would routinely suffer from hard, sometimes very hard extraction. It was a dog.
If you're looking at one, I'd recommend getting hands on with it rather than purchasing unseen. I'd be very happy with one if it was of the standard that my clubmate's was.

They are as good as any other AR style rifle made from stock parts.
If they fail to extract that is a chamber/ammo issue but the rest of the parts are the usual spec parts (and as good as any) and after market bits will fit. I have a couple of rifle made from parts sourced from Sabre and they are faultless.

I have one well a lower part of one the upper has been changed for a SGC before I bought it so has the side charging as well as the T bar. It still has the original Sabre Defence 18" barrel and shoots very well. The lower is very well made fits together with the SGC upper with no flex.
I also have one of their FAL's again fit and finish is very good.

My .223 lower came from them. Went and picked it myself when they were based in Northolt. I would be interested to hear how he is getting on. Hopefully he cleared his name :)

I have a Sabre Defence Carbine, it works fine for me. It can get a little sticky if I put a lot of rounds through it in one go. It came with a rubbish cocking handle that fouled the receiver but Matnall put me a Bradley one on instead.

Last I heard he was fighting extradition on the grounds of PTSD and being suicidal. He was cleared for extradition by the judge and given bail awaiting the nod from the Home Office - then under Theresa 'Steady As She Goes' May,
This report is dated from a little under a year ago - his co-defendants coughed to it and got stretches of 13 - 18 months.

My guess is he's still trying to get out of extradition. These things drag on. And even if he has been extradited by now you can spend years in some Yank s*** hole awaiting trial. I can think of nothing worse than doing time in one of their zoos.
