Hi all,

Our range backstop in Cumbria is in dire need of being screened for lead

Does anybody know of a UK outfit that would do such a task? Its never been screened for 40 years
So we have gathered it's about time something was done!

Thanks in advance

We did both our 'pistol' range and rifle range butts several years ago. As it is an outdoor range and also has a clay club sharing it, the storage of the contaminated sand wasn't an issue. We hired a digger with driver and dug out the old stuff and replaced it with new. The donkey work of raking and shovelling was done as several work days by our members with the digger doing the heavy work. We took the opportunity to create three wooden frames, one for each lane, in the rifle butts. Next de-leading will only require the replacement of the sand in the frames.

We did intend to riddle the old stuff - one of our members even built a powered sifter - to recover the scrap and then reuse the sand for pathways, but to date it is still in piles where it isn't in the way.

Indoors or out. If it is outdoors I will get details of the people we use. They recently del eased and re profiled ours

I shot 5 .675 lead balls into the sand at my fillbore club a few months ago, and there was a sudden interest in a work party to clear the backstop..

Our small bore club, we clear ourselves and sell it on

Lead is worth sheckels to some peeps, be careful of people offering to charge lots to clear.
