Morning all,
Is anyone running a 45' picatinny rail alongside a small mag scope for practical use.
Trying to find a reputable brand rather than an ebay special.

I've tried it but not for long enough to get proficient at that kind of set up. I used it that way for about 3 practice matches and then one 'proper' competition as I knew one stage was in a 100m tunnel range and mini IPSC targets look vvvvvery small at that distance with a mk1 eyeball and no magnification!
I apologise but I can't remember the make of the mount I used. I would say though that I've got a Ebay special and a £75 job and on a .22lr there's little to compare.

95% of the time I now just use a plain red-dot (Holosun 503c). I do have a Vortex x3 magnifier if I need to go further or if there are some particularly tight No-shoots but I rarely use it.
EDIT: Have imbedded YouTube videos been disabled on here now??

i was contemplating a Eotech holographic with Magnifier but i quite like the accuracy of the scope especially at distance.

You need to tailor it to the type of shooting you do the most. For the mini-rifle comps i shoot they rarely have stages over 25m so a red-dot on its own is enough

Most are indoor on the 50m range so max 50, the dot would struggle at that distance for accuracy.
Currently been using my 10/22 which is set up more for Gallery Rifle running 5-15x50 which is ok but although im quick and very accurate with it i know im losing valuable seconds acquiring targets at funny angles.
The aim is to purchase a new rifle just for practical. most likely the AR platform. so looking at options for optics

So in answer to my own question I have found out that vortex actually make various offset mounts.

That’s the one, good to know there’s an easy UK supply.
Just to decide whether I go for a 1-8 or 4-12 and dot

I'm running a 1-6 Razor HD on a QD Cantilever and a Venom on the 45 mount on my Smith. Covers most bases.

I was thinking similar. Like the look of the new strike eagle 1-8 from vortex. Should be enough.
