Today at our club range my electronic ear defenders picked up the unmistakable sound of a drone hovering.

There it was above our quarry range having a good look, above the height of the cliff walls so further than the legal minimum distance away from us.

Now not knowing how long it had been there, quite possible it was surveilling us for some time, but we did consider the legal ramifications. Obviously the most aggressive action we made to the drone was a single upraised finger.

It had a good view of our carpark and could see all the vehicles from it's vantage point.

wouldn't have learnt anymore than by someone just walking into the range though

Different quarry, the range of transmission on a drone they'd need to come up the road a little at Ross, easy to spot the operator methinks.

Other quarry isn't quite as remote, within a mile of a busy road and beauty spot car park.

Ahh! Did anyone try to find the operator of the drone?

Drone was gone by the time I got to the top of the hill, long climb up a fairly steel cliff.

Probably somebody wondering what goes on there. If its a standard Phantom type drone the camera lens is pretty wide.

It was DJI Inspire.

I doubt you could have done anything if you found the operator, most likely they're not doing anything illegal if flown correctly.
Shooting it down is a big no-no and will get the shooter in a load of trouble.
