Wish they'd make an example out of other more serious offenders...

True, but he was also a fool and a serious risk. I cant approve of his behaviour :bad:
Storing ammo without due care is plain irresponsible, loaded guns lying around etc.. etc... kukkuk

The disappointment is that someone HAS to have an illegal collection to be able to collect such valid items of history because these items have been criminalised and unobtainable by law abiding people. Obviously they are not unobtainable by those wishing to flout the laws. It further illustrates how futile the laws are to curbing anything other than law abiding citizens, of which criminals, by their very definition, are not.

Personally I would have given the guy a 30 years sentence.

15 years hard labour for not keeping the guns in a clean and tidy condition (they were covered in rust), and another 15 years for using multiple block type electrical adapters.

"Despite the likely destruction of some of Bushell’s collection Kent Police hope to retain some for museum display."

That's a welcome surprise.

It was a very impressive and very illegal collection and I do wonder what motivated him to hold so may illegal firearms and how he actually managed to source them. I suppose some could say that by holding them he was keeping them off the streets. My view is very simple, he broke the law. Endof.

Five years was the minimum they could give him and he was caught bang to rights, your views about the Police seeking more serious offences in your eyes Chuck are not a valid point. The Police and CPS are not going to turn a blind eye because he is a nice old man who helped the Samaritans.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we might see more of this kind of thing in the coming years, there has always been the hushed whispers that there were some who after the 87 and 97 bans hid away secondary collections. Say you were a 55 year old man in 87 you would be in your mid 80's by now.

Hopefully the AR10 will be saved for a museum as that is a rare piece but my sympathy for the man doesn't go that far, all he has done is give some lurid headlines for the Antis to milk.
