So the daughters are teaming up this Cristmas to buy me a present
but a new AI is just too much
So ive been looking at Gun Vices ....
What have you lot got or use ? recomendations please
Maybe a case for my CMMG (plastic one) any ideas who makes one ?
Barrel spanner for milspec stuff ???

What do you want to use the gun vise for if you want to remove barrels the one in the link is of no use.
For barrel removal i have a vise I was lucky enough to acquire from ovenpaa. I use it in conjunction with a barrel spanner I purchased from Brownels.
I also have a 10 tonne hydraulic gun vise. Not some thing you would put on your Christmas list of course

The Fox vice looks superb and will overcome the flexing issue experienced on clamp type vices when you graunch them up tight.

Personally I would look at a decent set of screwdrivers and/or T handle Hex and Torx keys, my preference is the Wiha brand for such things, sensibly priced, stand up to the job and feel good in the hand. Only down side is they do not do an imperial set.

I use the MTM gun vice for cleaning and holding firearms for minor gun smithing, scope fitting etc. jobs, it is fine for that but would be useless for barrel removal and such things. It is cheap and hardwearing mine gets used everyday and is always holding one firearm or another. For barrel removal and serious gun smithing I go to someone who has the proper equipment.

David is right about good screwdrivers, these are the first thing any would be gun tinkerer should get, I have had Brownell Magna and Chapman sets for decades, they have never let me down, The Magma hollow ground slot heads are great and I have never found a screw that they wouldn't fit properly, the Chapmans have a good range of fittings for those stupid metrifucked screws, allen, torx etc and their Chapman wrench is a god send if you need serious torque.

I have an assortment of ebony handled Turnscrews (they look nice!) for when the customer is with me however the Brownell Magna is always my first choice when working on my own. A nice and attainable alternative are the Milwaukee shock wave range albeit in a more limited range of sizes.

I use a large engineering vice which I bolted to my workbench in the days when I used to work on cars.

To clamp a rifle I wrap the stock in soft cloth.

I use the same vice to hold my reloading press (which is bolted to a piece of 4x4 timber).

The vice squad wouldn't like it though as it's lever release
