Thinking about a new .223?

I've been thinking about a new .223 for a while, mainly for light hearted, mid range target work. I'm quite keen on a Savage. I already have a couple of F-12's and very pleased with them.

Just browsing round and found one in US for $369 with a $100 cash back deal - talk about gutted.

£1,229 here.

I know there's always been a big difference but that just takes the biscuit.
Cheaper to fly out there, pick one up and fly home again. :(

Wow, that is indeed a crazy markup value. According to a lot of shooters in the US, Savage rifles are excellent value for their price point.

For a few hundred quid more, you could get a Ruger Precision Rifle, the 223 versions are available in the UK now.

If only it could be done that easy.

Hmm - maybe a barreled action and find a decent stock, also need to investigate the new Howa mini action.

I had a Howa 1500 .243 a while ago - not bad but I found accuracy only ok, not spectacular.

Yes, I think the Savages are under rated here. Every one I've seen seem to shoot incredibly well.

I'm probably teaching Grandma to suck eggs, but watch out for barrel twist rate. There's a great range in factory .223, not all suitable for all bullet weights.

Edgar Brothers are the importers of Savage Arms... enough said.

I already have a CZ 527 in 1/9 which is fairly versatile - I think I will probably go the same again but may be tempted by a 1/8.

Ruger Gunsite Scout in 223 would make a good fun gun, but more money than the Savage.

I have a savage FTR, one of the first in the country many years ago and still doing well.
That's why a few years ago I bought .223 savage accustalker. I am really really pleased with it. it shoots very well.
I think once you have owned savage ( not the really cheap ones ), you will be a fan of them.
