Postage of a firearm

I'm selling a rifle and a potential buyer has asked if his RFD could check out the rifle and the condition of the barrel. I would be sending the rifle to the other end of the country.

I was wondering what the legality side of such a situation would be, would the rifle have to be taken off my licence to be sent from my RFD to his?

You are OK to 'leave' the firearm on your FAC until a sale has been decided as it is with an RFD, the recipient FAC filled in and at that point you can let your firearms department know.

Also - make sure you are 100% clear on who pays for what before you agree to send it.

Otherwise if your buyer / RFD rejects it, you'll be paying the cost to get your own rifle back.

(ask me how I know)

It is not only FAC holders this happens to and I do know of an RFD who had to return a couple of rifles for a customer who despite having asked to view them refused flatly to pay for the return shipping.

And remember, should the sale go through you have to fill in the recipient's FAC, not the RFD.
