Gun room door

#1 Post by Furiouspilgrim »

Does anyone have any experience of www.lathamssteeldoors.co.uk ?

Looking to get the lvl3 heavy duty door.

Already been to view them, they’ve had confirmation from a local licensing dept that there doors are ok to use, just waiting on my licensing dept to get back to me with a yes or no before I buy.

Just wondering if anyone had used them before? They seem well built.

Do they provide an installation service?

They don’t. They’ve made them very easy to install though.

Silly question but i'm presuming that a gun room has to have 4 solid walls (i.e. not a plasterboard wall) and no windows as well as a steel door to qualify?

Plaster board walls and ceilings need reinforcing 1" steel mesh does it, I can't remember the fixing distances but it is the HO Guidance handbook. Windows OK but they need securing like the fitting of bars, shutters or the like, again refer to the guidance.

As above, stud walls are ok if you use mesh. Extra brownie points if you mesh the floor and ceiling too.

I fitted a grille behind a standard outward opening door. figuring that a locked standard internal door wouldn't draw as much attention if someone broke in, than a huge steel door.
plus a grille was dirt cheap as it is just 1" squared tube welded together with a lock

Mesh on the floor? Not downstairs unless you were expecting the mole from Thunderbirds or the Hatton garden gang after your family jewels, oh err missus.
Careful now/that sort of thing

My Armoury is over a garage, the ceiling of the garage had 1" steel mesh put on it.
