Mildly scope with 12 points.

Hi, new to all this rifle business. I have just bought a rifle with a Bushnell Elite 6500 which I believe is mildot. But both elevation and windage turrets have 12 points (0-11) on them. Why is this? Shouldn’t there be 10?

Please excuse the typo on the title. Won’t let me edit it.

Your scope has a mildot reticle, but the turrets are MOA. Nothing unusual about 12 MOA per turn.

I don't think I've seen two scopes with the same system of turret markings! And lots of them are quite difficult to read.
So you either have to get used to the ones you've got. Particularly making sure you can return the windage/elevation to the same position and keep note of the settings particularly the elevation settings at different distances.
Or you can try doing a custom job - google 'Turret wraps' as a starter for ten.
On many scopes you can reset the turret rings to zero by loosening a screw and rotating the turret. This is particularly useful for windage if you can get a 'now-wind' zero.

Because 10 per full rotation is easier to count per full rotation for mil. However having 12 for MOA makes more sense because of the math. If each click is 1/4 then a full rotation is 3 MOA.

That’s what I was thinking. So if it’s 12, is it likely to be MOA?

As far as I'm aware the Bushnell Elite 6500 only comes in MOA - Mildot is the reticle.

That would make sense. I was told it was mildot but was probably talking about the reticle as you say.

Can't be! A full rotation of the turret must be 12 minutes. Think about it, only a lunatic would design a scope with as little as 3 moa per full rotation of the turret!!
