Interesting, it is all but a 'fantasy' rifle and it would be good to see some higher resolution images and information on the latch design and operation.

Easier and cheaper ways to meet the design brief !

A SVD rechambered for the new round, shorter barrel and folding stock would do it.

Experimental rather than "fantasy", the project was dropped due to the gas system being unreliable and the subsequent SVDS and SVU rifles being developed and introduced into service.

They also tested a SVD variant with a heavy barrel chambered in 6.5x54r, a round widely used in Russian Vostok Biathlon rifle.

A bullpup! Who would have thought that after the west establishing that they aren't worth the hassle the Russians would bother to try developing one.

I thought the future was 6.5/6.8.

It was designed back in the 80's, not recently.......

The Russians actually produced a couple of very effective bullpups, notably the SVU and it's SVU-A variant and the OTs-14 "Groza".

Wonder what the barrel life would have been?
