Very likely long overdue but still well done for getting it right.

Ah, but would we see such a thing in the UK? Not likely....
Could you imagine the revenue that could have been created if the MoD had sold off the straight pull cadet rifle to the shooting public when they adopted a semi auto version, (Yep, children are trusted with a S.5 firearm where we aren't!), instead of destroying them?
Now that is something that the NRA should have got involved in!

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

It does make you wonder where places like GunRoom UK get their once-fired brass from (Presumably military sources?) that they then sell on to us 'Joe Publics' at a good price..... any potential to 'group-up' as a forum and buy direct?
Re: Military Brass Cases Sold to Public as Part of New Law U
If it is military I would expect it to be Berdan primed which I have a fair amount of right now and never bother to reload as it is a PITA to remove the old primers and find new ones. Having said that I seem to remember Dodyrog picked up a few earlier this year) I used to pick up once fired Lapua .308 from Peter Lawman at a tenner/100 and will happily feed my AI with it. In fact it did not even need full length sizing.
I did start collecting RUAG .308 but it looks like I will need to pay for it if I am to get anymore. If someone is looking at a bulk buy of once fired .308 brass I would certainly be interested.

Military brass today is boxer primed, but with crimp primers. The crimp has to be removed.

The stuff that I bought at the Newark show was Boxer primed Lapua in 338 LM... Looks good.
Re: Military Brass Cases Sold to Public as Part of New Law U
Should have added ....surely this brass MUST be ex-military?....who else could afford to 'Fire & Throw' 338 LM brass!

Some people do just buy and shoot...DaveT wrote:Should have added ....surely this brass MUST be ex-military?....who else could afford to 'Fire & Throw' 338 LM brass!
All the milsurp I am shooting is Berdan primed, the only Boxer I have is commercial issue Lapua in .308 etc. I have not come across Berdan (two primer holes) brass. Fair to say all of mine is 10 years+ old.Sim G wrote:Military brass today is boxer primed, but with crimp primers. The crimp has to be removed.
Just a thought, the DK Army use RUAG and Lapua .338LM and the Lapua is boxed up in Lapua commercial packages, they do collect it on the range but not to reload, it counted back in so they know how many rounds have been fired.

The only difficulty is getting the Berdan primers to load with. My supply was released by RG in the 70's.ovenpaa wrote:If it is military I would expect it to be Berdan primed which I have a fair amount of right now and never bother to reload as it is a PITA to remove the old primers and find new ones. The USA supplies them to RG and prohibit the use by civvies.

Any ideas what the British army do with their spent cases? Occasionally i find the odd 5.56 case at Barton road when shooting in the pits which invariebly have leaves on the floor which would conceal them, but to be honest it isnt that often.
