Renewal problem with Doctor

Just had a conversation with Gwent police about my renewal.

Interesting point number 1: they don't bother with home visits at renewal anymore unless there's a specific reason to carry one out....

Interesting point number 2: they are refusing to process my renewal as my GP surgery has declined to provide any information or to engage with the licensing team other than to send a letter saying they aren't going to send anything further! wallhead

I told the lady in the office that it wasn't law that the GP had to 'approve' my suitability but she insisted that the Chief Constable had decided no GP report = no applications or renewals would be processed. I asked what she was going to do about this, and her reply was I had to change to a GP practise that would 'approve' my application.

So.....yet again, Dave v's Gwent Police...... ****

Not sure BASC can help, it did cross my mind when I read the OP.

The GP can do as they please and the Firearms Department can set their own rules, regardless of law and guidance.

Yep, the same battle I had with my local force. My doctor sent the questionnaire back, that was not suffice, she then sent a letter explaining they would not reply any further as they already filled out the information they had been asked. I'm dreading the next one!

You are entitled to a free print out of your medical history. Get that and send it in.

From the BASC statement

What happens if my GP does not want to operate the new system? Another GP in the practice can provide the information. If this is not possible, you should discuss this with the police firearms licensing department. Applicants and certificate holders should not be disadvantaged if their GP does not provide the information needed

seems straight forward enough, we will see when my renewal (at TVPs request to get them out of a bind ) goes in shortly

All the blurb in the world is not going to make an iota of difference.

Unless someone somewhere takes it to court and gets precedent.

If I had the money I would.

Latest example is the condition on partner's firearms certificate to hold eachother's firearms and ammo.
Some counties allow it, some do not.

No point in arguing as whatever the decision maker stays stands.

Our "national" organisations were party to this mess and now they just walk away and ignore the plight of legal gun owners.
