So tonight i had my first go at casting my own bullets, RCBS moud for the 310 cadet.
Using scrap lead mixed with old pewter at 20:1 in a Lee melting pot.
First ones as expected were wrinkly but then they started to look OK
These are the results

A few had a bit of frosting but only in odd areas and I tried different temps. etc
I will Alox these if the consensus is they are OK
Feedback would be most welcome

They look Ok to me.
Frosting is caused by your lead and mould being too hot.
Wrinkles are caused by them being too cold.

Yes they look good. Successful boolit casting is a " hands-on experience". It can't all be learned from a book or from watching a vid. The more you the do the better you will get.

If you are getting frosting then that means you have antimony in your alloy.

A lead and tin only alloy will not frost at high temperature.

How does the RCBS bullet fit your gun? I have found it to be on the large side for most of the many Cadets I have had through my hands over the years.

When I started to load 310 I used range scrap exclusively---including antimony. I no longer have access to the nice collecting back stop on my old indoor range and so I now use 25:1. I can't say I have noticed any difference except that, at 77, I can't quite shoot as well reliably---I did manage to win the 100yd off-hand rook rifle comp at last years Trafalgar Meeting with it however.
Dromias comment about the RCBS mould possibly casting oversize bullets intrigues me. I have added a check to my list of things to do. If they are oversize, then my rifle likes them.
