A quick bit of market research, how many of you shoot at a range with acoustic drums on the firing point, how good are they and where did they come from?

This would be interesting to me too....

Our club has planning permission for a 100m outdoor range, but one of the main concerns was noise.

I have seen, (and suggested to the Club Committee), "range silencers" made out of rows of old car tyres, but if there is a commercial solution with a guaranteed noise reduction that might be a good solution..

Fife & Kinross FB shoot at Blairadam just outside Kinross. They were required to introduce these as a result of noise issues.

I've visited a couple of times and they seem little more than blur plastic barrels with the bottoms cut off and lined with foam, possibly the type used in studios etc to suppress noise. Can't comment on the effectiveness.

I believe the IRA were behind the tyres trick.

They had a zeroing range on a farm in Donegal.

100 yard long trench with tyres ( not sure if hgv or tractor ) which went undetected for years !

You beat me to mentioning Blairadam,
One of the barrels has a yellow ring painted on the outside edge to signify it is the only one to be used with rifles with mussel brakes,
It is interesting how much the foam inside gets buffeted by the gasses.

The ones I have seen are lined with loft insulation wool kept in place with chicken wire.

I think you missed the point ... you posted the reply twice, hence an echo!
