Club level .22lr benchrest.

I've just picked up a rather sad looking BSA Martini Mk5 to have a go at .22lr benchrest. This old ex-club rifle came without sights but, after shoving a patch through the barrel (and a quick look with my new borescope) I decided to part with a little cash.

So, after giving it a going over and giving the barrel a deep clean, I knocked up a quick temporary scope mounting bracket (made out of ex-Ovenpaa's scrap) and this morning took it to our local 25yd range.

Unfortunately the scope I had spare (Chinese 2.5-10x40) didn't focus down to 25 yards so it needed a bit of guesswork.

Two or three sighting/fouling shots with Eley Match got me near enough so shot a few 5 shot groups that looked ok then a standard 10 bull 25yd target that produced a 99. All in all, very pleased, I'm sure with a bit of tinkering it can do better.

I do like jobs such as this one. Very nice and it is good to see the off cuts are getting used.

Nice job shame the last target was a 9! lol
You need a more powerful scope - min 25 power preferably x36
PM me if you want further discussion

Great to see an old abused rifle getting a new lease of life rather than being scrapped!

People can spend a fortune on Bleiker's, G&E's etc, but the old Beeza's still take some beating. goodjob

You need a 'scope set up for air gun field target shooting. You will be able to focus down to below 10 meters.

Indeed - I have a monster 10-50x60 that will do the trick. Just machining up a heavy duty mount now.

Great shooting!
Assume you're going to be going NSRA style Bench Rest from the shoulder as opposed to rested front and rear? Looks like you've got just the setup to be more than competitive :)

I shoot both with or without a rear bag depending on the comp rules. I've just shot the Kent KCSSA BR comp in the LV class with my Finnfire - No rear bag, also the UKBR22 - with a rear bag.

I've now machined up a more substantial bracket and a front flat block also mounted a more suitable scope so will give it a try Thursday morning.

Nice piece of oak there and I bet you enjoyed machining the new bracket. I really miss making things for myself :(
