I'm looking for some information on how clubs go about getting the disciplines on applications for NRA SCC cards?

Do they assess competency on long barreled pistols/revolvers for short range pistol? What criteria for long range pistol or muzzle loading (not black powder specifically).

We have probationers on smallbore and gallery rifle and full bore courses. What are other clubs doing as far as training/recording etc.

Best to ask the NRA direct.

They have a course that defines content for the cards which clubs can purchase.

However the last ones I used were very Bisley centric and needed extensive amending to make them suitable for most real world ranges including non Bisley MoD ranges.

Thanks for that, I will be looking into it further to see what is out there. I find this site always has someone who's been there before me with any question.

HME and blacck powder have their own criteria and you can do an addition to your RCO qualification to cover that. I have the NRA training booklet but it didn't give me all I needed on this. Maybe a phone call to them later.

It is a bit of a grey area with LB pistols, so I wondered if there was anyone using best practice to cover this outside of Bisley.

When I enquired, I was told that Long Range Pistol is for those chambered in rifle calibres and shot from a combined bench and rest.

Typically 600-1000 yards

I got mine recently and was fully organised by my club. They signed off to say I was safe. Under the "safe to use" bit on the back it just says:
"Iron Sighted Rifle"
Nothing more, nothing less.

I've seen them in use from the back of Century, quite odd devices with what look like screw breeches, scopes, rests and used on a bench.

In the days of long range pistol they were called "flying machines".

That sorts long range pistol then.
