Temperature when firing

Just been asked what the temperature in a 12 bore cartridge is when fired. Any one know?

'ot !

The gases are possibly in excess of 2,200 C, though very briefly

Well if the burns i was was getting from my M2's barrel on some of the longer stages of last Saturdays PSG competition are anything to go by i'm happy to go along with 'ot, maybe even go as far as to say bloomin' 'ot! :lol:

Now sir, thats not cool, I feel the response to this hot topic has been but lukewarm.

There seems to be quite a lot of research on the effect of outside temperature on pressure in firearms but little information on the temperatures reached inside cartridges when fired.
