A couple of days ago I went to a gun shop to buy some powder, I offered my FAC and was told they only needed it for tips. Now I have been reloading for about 45 years and have never heard of tips, she meant bullets. I was told that if I bought bullets they would have to go on my FAC as ammo puchased. Another first for me. In the past I have bought in 2/3/and 5 thousand at a time, lead ones. As I reload all but .22, nowhere on my ticket is there listed bullets. Can anyone inform me as to if this is usual or legal.

You need your FAC for primers, expanding bullets and loaded ammunition, some shops will ask for an FAC for powder as well but that is a local thing only and is not required by law. We buy from one place that enters it all on a computer, they then ask for your name, find it on the system and job done without sight of FAC.

Having said all that, some RDF's do not ask for your FAC when I buy primers...

Only expanding ammunition need go on your FAC, other than that you can buy as many bullets* as you can carry/afford.

Bullets* - 'Tips' is a new one to me. so they will now also be known as - tips, projectiles, heads etc.

Or in South Africa they are commonly known as 'points'.

Err to clarify.
All ammunition purchased has to be entered on your FAC by the dealer.
Bullets do not need to be.
Primers & expanding bullets. The Dealer should ask to see your FAC.
Expanding bullets are not required to be entered on your FAC but the RFD must record the sales & buyers FAC details in his register.
