I've been trying to buy some Lanolin ('pure liquid lanolin') for making up bulk case lube. I've found the odd source online at about 7 to 10 quid for a 4 floz bottle. Can anyone recommend from expereience where to buy the stuff, and what is a fair price?
Thanks!

i got some from ebay. the stuff i got was solid and in jars. to blend it with the alcohol was a bit of a game really. both had to be lightly warmed.... NOT ON A FLAME. then added together. i keep mine in the metal container the alcohol came in then when i want to use it (in the winter) stand the can on a radiator for a few minutes then give it a good shake. its ok in the summer.
I think that the liquid lanolin might have a bit of water content? might be worth investigating that

I sell it.
Its pure anhydrous lanolin sold by weight.
Its sticky gooey stuff that goes a lot further than the liquid.

I use it mainly in BP lubes and as and addition to Ed's Red.

Thanks Adam. Does anhydrous work ok for case lube?
Homemade Firearm Cleaners & Lubricants states that
"You need to use pure liquid lanolin as the fatty solids in anhydrous lanolin will settle out in the alcohol" and
"Liquid lanolin, which is a refined lanolin oil with the solid fats removed (the reason why solid anhydrous lanolin doesn't work well in this application)...".

I have used it in small batches for case lube mixed in a bain marie, I haven't kept any so it could well separate if stored I don't know.
Suppose I send you some FoC and you try it?

Thanks for the kind offer; it is much appreciated. Since I'm planning to make up a quantity to store for occasional use I think I'll stick with the tried and tested recommendation of the liquid formulation. It would be interesting to experiment, but I have so little time at home at the moment I just know it would be one of those tasks that never quite makes it to the top of the list, and I wouldn't want to take up your kind offer and fail to deliver the results of the test. Thanks again though.

I seem to recall that some horse supplies shops stock lanolin.
A web search may turn up more info...
