VFG Cleaning System

Has anyone tried the VFG Cleaning System on full bore rifles? I first saw this in Denmark a year or so ago and finally invested in some of the bits to have a try today when I was in the HPS shop at Bisley.

The VFG Cleaning System is basically little felt tubes that screw onto a cleaning rod tip, a small knurled nut is then screwed on and tightened to hold them in place, if you tighten the nut it forces the tubes to expand so can tune the fit to the bore. They also do a very fine bore cleaning paste and it all seemed to work very well tonight when I used it.

I use them, they are excellent, they pick up crude you normally do not get with a patch

They are actually wool Use them and think they are very good. You can buy them in bags of 500, but you don't seem to see the blue of copper fouling as easy on them and you never seem to get a spotless mop neither. I find. What is the foam that some use for cleaning leave in for 2 to 24 hours. My 308 always seems to foul in the first 3/8" approx which I hope will diminish shortly as it gets more rounds through it.

I use them in preference to anything else but mine must be an older version as there is no knurled nut, you just screw the felt pad onto the cleaning rod attachment.

Only thing is they are 10p each if you buy them in a small packet, should they be discarded after every use? I have been using two at a time and the front one gets black but the rear stays clean so they are certainly working in that they do not appear to let any crud through.

I seem to have lost a post so I will repeat it. £19 for 500 at Intershoot. I re-use mine unless they are 1st through and filthy. I use the used ones for the next solvent application and following brushing to remove crud and clean ones for final polishing. I find them exceptionally good.
