When I had one (223), I took it out to 600m occasionally - it was more capable than I was! Most of the time I shot it out to 400m and I was quite happy with the results.
If you do get one, check the twist rate - I understand the new ones now are 1in12, whereas mine was one of the early ones with a 1in7 twist barrel.

I have a 101, only put cheap Barnaul through it. It is a fun rifle, lots of accessories, mags are hard to come by and you are pretty much tied to RUSmilitary with regards to mags and the like.
Still, it turns the heads, especially when you replace the rail / flash / stock etc..
To disagree slightly with Chuck, I never tried Russian surplus in mine, but it like the surplus RG. I also found the 1 in 7 barrel a bit fussy with bullet weights - 60 to 64gns was ideal for mine, others have found theirs was happy with 69 SMK bullets. I don't recall anyone with a 1 in 7 barrelled Saiga having any success with lighter bullets, but I'm sure someone will say different!
BTW shoot it with a scope or get a replacement foresight - the issued one is crap!
All in a good fun rifle.
