Do you shoot .260 Rem ?

#1 Post by TJC »

If so, can you plse tell me what does it state on your FAC with regard to permission ? Is it .260 Rem, 6.5mm or something else ? Just want to make sure my FAC is correct as I think there might be an error. I asked the issuing force but they haven't yet replied. Thx

Is yours shown as 6.5-08 per chance?

I believe this is one of the things that varies from force to force. I had at one point 6.5 on a slot I changed it for something else but when I asked for 6.5 again they said I had to specify a chambering.

Thank you. Mine came back as .300 which is an odd one as that covers a huge variety of options. I called but they couldn't give me an answer over the phone so am awaiting an email reply from the issuing officer. Am guessing it is wrong.

Hi

Being a bear of little brain when it comes to all this calibre stuff (I was brought up on 7.62 / 9 mm by the RAF and think that 5.56 mm is a pretty new and therefore suspicious idea), can one of you gentlemen explain why .260" is related to 6.5 mm? I make .260" = 6.604 mm. And why on earth would .300" have anything at all to do with it - are the police on substances or am I missing something completely? And is there a market at Bisley for .260" Remingon if I can get it at a reasonable price? And what's a reasonable price, please?

yours in ignorance

Not sure why it's called 260 I believe all 6.5's are .264" could be wrong tho (I often am!)

Why is it called 260 Rem - marketing - IIRC it was originally the 6.5-08 A Square but Remington got its version to SAAMI first and the name stuck.

Given the thread title I assuming .300 was a typo and you meant .260. If you have authority for a calibre rather than a cartridge why worry - it gives you more options. My FAC lists .22, .22CF, .25, 6.5mm, 9mm, and .45! :goodjob:

No it wasn't a typo. I thought .260 Rem was a caliber in addition to be a cartridge ? Why worry...only because i want to ensure that my permission matches my ownership and I don't fall foul down the road during an inspection.
