I got my 30-30 out today and fitted a new scope.
I'm off to reload some 150 gr bullets and some 120 cast boolits (for shooting at the indoor range).
I'll try the rifle out on some roe deer in woodland I'm stalking - it's a lot lighter to carry than the .243 and sound moderator.
I've just had a look at Pet Loads and taken Ken Walters advice on the loads.
MY FAC is being renewed at the moment so I can't go out til it's back - hurry up Durham (although they aren't usually too bad - not like their northern neighbours).

What flavour .30-30? Mine is a Marlin. Lovely old cartridge in light, handy, fast firing packages. A real shame a lot more aren't into lever guns......!

The first rifle I ever fired was my Uncles Winchester (?) L/A in 44 Mag. I never been a big fan of them myself, but the Wife loves them - so much so, she's convinced me to give up two of my slots so she can have a 22lr and 357 Mag L/A to shoot! :shock:

I must admit I could be tempted by a Marlin 336 in 444 Marlin or 45-70 Govt.

It's a Marlin - 20" barrel.
I have a 24" 44 Mag that would also do for the roe but is heavier.
The .357 MArlin I have is for target work down the range.
I also want a .444 but funds are stretched (very tightly!)

Fine rifle and round, I have a Marlin 336 in at the moment that shoots nearly any .30 cal boolit extremely well.

I'll be sorry to see this rifle go. :(

I have three .30-30s - a second model Winchester 1894 made in 1913 which unfortunately is in need of a re-barrelling; an early 1980s (after the introduction of the rebounding hammer, but before that awful angle-eject) 94 Trapper model with a 16 inch barrel; and a Golden Spike Commemorative.
