Scope alignment question
I recently got a Besonder optisch (8-32x50) for long range .22 - The only other scopes I have are on my gallery rifles, which were zero'd in by trial and error at 25 yards and are rarely adjusted - With this one I want to be able to adjust for all changes in elevation and windage.
Happily, using the scope isn't as complicated as I thought it would be; as the turrets are clearly marked and as long as I think in minutes and not inches, then it's no different than using TR aperture sights - However having zeroed the turrets I've discovered a small problem...
...I zeroed it at 25 yards, and the windage zero is approximately central, so I've got plenty of adjustment left and right - But when I zeroed the elevation it is already near the top of its adjustment range - There are only enough minutes left to get me up to 100 yards...
...Even with the elevation zeroed (with the turret all the way to the bottom) at 50 yards (minimum needed) there will only just be enough adjustment on the scope to make the 70+ minute (!) adjustment to 300 yards.
So; What is the process for mounting/aligning the scope so the it is zeroed with the elevation turret in its lowest position? ...Or, would it be simpler to just use the mil-dots?

You'll likely have to shim one of the mounts to change your scopes postion.I'm in the same postion with my .22 since changing the stock, the POI has changed somewhat and the scope can't adjust enough to meet it.

O/T Sorry,
But ..... speaking of things made out of Coke Cans . . . . .
Adam, did you get a chance to look at the 9mm when it came back?

Re: Scope alignment question
Thanks for the link Mr Smith
According to some of the info on the link it says that you shim the rear ring (correct?), and that 0.01" should give approximately 1 min of elevation - As I'm looking to gain about 70 MOA that would be 0.7 of an inch (!)...as it's separate rings, surely that would put the scope at such an angle that it would only be held by the edges of the rings? Do you have to line the rings with something, or do you graduate the shimming to match the slope? (Btw: I can't use a one piece mount due to loading).
Thanks also for the material advice - I haven't got any film, but have got coke cans.....though due to the problem of the extreme angle, I may explore other materials.
From what you guys have said, it may have to be a compromise of shimming to get me to 200 yards, and then using mil-dots from there...

That has to be the most irrelevant hijack ever...if you're going to do it, at least make it interesting or funny.phaedra1106 wrote:O/T Sorry,
