Marlin .357(1894) - New Stock options
I have the above rifle - enjoy shooting it: but not too keen on the looks! The wood is just wood effect plastic and I would like to change the stock for something in black synthetic - now the big question..... any ideas where I could get one?
I understand that Ramline in the USA make exactly what I am looking for, unfortunately they only make them for the larger 336 frame which is used for the big cartridges like .45-70, .444 they do not make stocks for the 94 (pistol cartridge calibre) Marlins.
Would like to create something like the picture.
I have tried Rimfire Magic (Marlin agent) and Cheshire Gun Room (where I purchased the rifle).
Thank you in advance (hopefully).

I found MPI Stocks in the USA - http://www.mpistocks.com/
I was looking into this too a few weeks ago. Here's their reply:

Hope this helpsYes, we make them for the Marlin lever rifles in fiberglass.
It takes 2 weeks to make a set and they cost $339 plus about $50 shipping to England
They need some fitting and a recoil pad is included that you will need to install.
If we put the pad on for you it's an additional $50

Since when has a Marlin stock been wood effect plastic?
The MPI stocks look slippery, especially when they get wet and are bloody expensive.
Dave at Valkyrie Rifles built a tactical Marlin last year or the year before and painted the stock black. Looked good!

I agree that the MPI stock is expensive and one is unable to check the quality before purchase!Mike357 wrote:Since when has a Marlin stock been wood effect plastic?

I have e-mailed Dave, the response was that he did not have any stocks, nor was he aware of another supplier.

Re: Marlin .357(1894) - New Stock options
Apart from the custom option above, no one makes a synthetic stock for the 1894. The only option is paint of some description. Or even a "wrap", but whether they are available in any else instead.
Marlin stocks are American Black Walnut. How about stripping the varnish and staining?

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I think Dave painted the stock on his tactical Marlin. If that's the case then you can be sure it was painted properly.Geek wrote:I agree that the MPI stock is expensive and one is unable to check the quality before purchase!Mike357 wrote:Since when has a Marlin stock been wood effect plastic?

I must be getting old I can not understand why any body would want a under lever in a plastic stock.

My S/S and U/U shotguns are wood, but I prefer synthetic stocks, just my preference.Alpha1 wrote:I must be getting old I can not understand why any body would want a under lever in a plastic stock.
