Anybody able to educate me on these 2 rifles?

#1 Post by Noahbody »

Looking for information between the Parker Hale M84 and Parker Hale 1200TX.

Im looking to pick one of these up for midrange, longrange, and Palma shooting.

I am also wanting to use Parker Hale sights and also have the ability to change to a scope.

I have an absolutely mint 1200TX and it shoots a dream. I shoot cast boolits through it and they work just fine.
I have another 1200TX action and shot out barrel for which I have another barrel (Kongsberg) to put on it. I've got a target stock for it and I'm going to fit it with a 16x scope that I have - also for shooting lead.
I love these guns as they are so accurate
Purveyor of fine cast boolits.
All round good guy and VERY grumpy old man.

The only thing I will say is that neither are really suitable for Palma Shooting. If Palma shooting is your aim you would be better off buying a modern single shot rigid actioned rifle like a Barnard or RPA. I am not saying Palma Shooting can't be done with a M84 or TX1200 but you will struggle. Go onto USRifleTeams.com forum and you will get all the advice you will ever need as regards to Long Range and Palma shooting.

Thank you for the replies. I have been searching high and low here in the US for the Parker Hale 1200TX. I just can not find one. It looks like my only option is to purchase one from the UK and have it imported to the US.

I have recently been collecting Parker Hale sights and apertures. I have the PH5B on my 1917 Enfield. I have a handful of different eyepieces and iris's. I am drawn to the quality and workmanship of these items. I would really like to add the 1200TX to my collection.

The only reason I mention the M84 is because I found one that is 90% and needs a little more work to make it suitable for shooting.

I currently shoot midrange and longrange with my Savage 12 in .308. I want to get into sling and sight shooting. Modern rifles is an option, just not an economical option at this time.

I am a forum member over at USRIFLETEAMS.COM and have read information there as well.

If anybody has a contact here in the states that would have the 1200TX for sale, please let me know.

The 1200TX is just a generic Mauser 98 clone with a lower left-hand receiver sidewall and an improved trigger unit. Nice rifles, mind - the real difference was the Parker Hale stock, which I find very comfortable to shoot.

1200TX is single shot and says 1200TX on the barrel , M82 is the 4 shot sniper rifle adopted by Canada as the C3 sniper rifle with a slightly lighter barrel , M84 was ,I believe a cadet version of the M82 with a shorter barrel and target sights , the M85 was the bees knees with a McMillan stock and 10 shot mags and a longer receiver ,a brilliant piece of kit. Norman Clark has some new parts for all of these and Bill is the real expert on all P_H's

I finally found the Parker Hale 1200TX that I have been searching for. Of all the places I searched and all the people I have asked, it turns out that one of the old time shooters at my club has one, which he agreed to sell. I had to work on him a bit and it wasnt easy or cheap.

Waterford103: Would you have the contact information for Norman Clark and Bill?

Thank You

I somewhere have a copy of 'Guns review' with the M84 on the cover and a comprehensive write up inside, I will try to find it, and post some scanned images if I can this week.
