Club Section within FBUK?

#1 Post by Mike357 »

I have been a little disheartened by the slow uptake by my club members in registering for our own forum accessed through our web site. My patience will only last so long! We may open up the membership to our two sister clubs but if it doesn't take off then I will can it.

Whilst on the range today, I got speaking to the chap that runs Shootforum.com and he offered to set up a club specific, private forum on shootforum.com. Accessible to Dundee Rifle & Pistol Club members only but with the benefit of drawing traffic through the forum.

That got me thinking, can private club sections be set up on Full Bore UK?

Answers on a postcard please!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Yes I am right here!

I have had a look at your website and forum and I do not think that the uptake has been slow at all.
Don't forget that you are running a club forum exclusively for club members and as such you are limited in the number of members and posts.

Regarding having a dedicated club forum section, I'll have a think and PM you.

weve done it on other forums no probs at all but you do tend to get them and us attitudes and the good posts being posted in the club section and then people who are not in the club drifting away

Also the F-B(UK) is a completely transparent forum, what you see is what you get, the Jokes and GOM sections are not visible to Guests but other than that everyone can see everything (There is an Admin bit but that is Christel's world) This means everyone can contribute in all areas.

Personally I see no reason why 'The Acme shooting club' as an example could not have a place to post events/results/dates and if members of the The Acme shooting club want to join in with the general banter that is F-B(UK) then great. As an example I think we could have around 18 members of my primary shooting club here (Another one joined yesterday) We use this forum as a bit of an information network, exchange PM's with dates, numbers and news, and if someone wants to post events/results/shooting dates up then great but F-B(UK) must not become a substitute for my club site.

One thing that could benefit a club posting events/results/dates on a regular basis is other members could dive in, check the dates and think hang on, this is a handy looking club, they shoot 'xyz' once a week/month and sound like a good lot, maybe I should be joining this club. Regardless of this I think the club members still should integrate with the rest of the forum members.

Do you know the reason why the people just drift away?
The reason why I am asking is because I can't see why they would just because there is a dedicated club section on the forum.

people who are in the club end up just posting in the club section and the rest off the forum gets neglected with quality posting

But surely if the rest of the said forum gets neglected with quality posts then I doubt they were there in the first place?

We have an average of 145 posts a day on this forum.
My question is, would the 145 posts disappear if there was a dedicated club section populated by let's say an additional 15 members from a club, that is an additional 15 members on top of the forum member count. 157 I think.

Why would the rhythm of the forum change just because there is an additional section that all can see and post in?

I am just asking because I do not know the answer myself...

Good enough reason for me. I am a member of a few forums (Many of the ones you are on Spud ;)) It would be nice to think I could get everything from one place but that is not possible. Right now I am following a fascinating thread on UKLR regarding the new 180 SMK's that I want to try ASAP! If I was not a member of that forum then I would never have known of the testing that has just taken place this very weekend in the UK.

if club members were to just talk amongst themselves they would miss out on so many new and interesting things.
