The Savage is a superb choice with stunning accuracy out of the box.

Concur on the Savage.
Not often new rifles impress me but the Savage has.

Re: .308 Best Way Forward?
Thanks chaps for your replies and wisdom therein.
l am going to have a lie down now and consider all the new options on top of the ones l had before.
l am leaning to the cheapest Remmy 700 in .308 and upgrading as l go.
Although the SSG 04 still looks nice.

Re: .308 Best Way Forward?
The only problem with the Remington is you can put a lot of money into its upgrades but when you come to sell it it is still only a Remmy 700 and you will have no chance of getting a decent price in comparison to what you may have spent on it.
Rifles that are set up from the get go hold their price far better and are a far better investment.

Re: .308 Best Way Forward?
I'm currently shooting a savage 110fp, it is spot on. Have shot it all the way up to 1k using 168gn laupua screnar, it raised a eye brown with the guys from my club as nobody thought it would drive the bullets fast enough to make the 1k.
My next rifle is going to be the savage 12f/tr with a 30" tube.
Only downside is Edgar brothers are not playing ball. When I ordered my new rifle I had to grey import it, I called savage USA and they told me EB are not making orders as they make a lot more on the Remingtons

I would agree EB don't seem to have more than a Norfolk handful of Savages in stock

I know where there is one. Brand new. The laminate and the Kevlar stocked version...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: .308 Best Way Forward?
Can't Savage find someone a bit more willing to invest in stock to import their products? Usually American companies give underperforming distributors the order of the boot.paxtond wrote:I'm currently shooting a savage 110fp, it is spot on. Careful now/that sort of thing
Re: .308 Best Way Forward?
Edgars certainly need a kick. They used to be OK but are now taking the Mick big style, and we are really suffering as a result.
Might be worth trying to find someone willing to do this and have a word with Savage...
