Threading an AE

#1 Post by mag41uk »

Just about to place an order for an AE in 260 remington.
I am going for a 26inch barrel that I wish to have threaded.
I will not be having a muzzle brake or moderator but wish to have it threaded and capped.
Gives me options later and easy to do now.
What thread do I go for as I know sod all about threading barrels!

Have it threaded M18x1.5 which is the standard AI muzzle thread, Tom can confirm the details and options available.

M18x1.5 for an AI is standard I believe.

Interestingly Tom has asked me what thread I want.
Isnt M18x1.5 peculiar to AI?
I dont want to end up with being restricted to AI products (not in a negative way!)
What threads are popular moderators/muzzle breaks?
Sorry if I sound dim, never had a threaded rifle before.

There are many different threads used including M13x1, M14x1, M15x1, M18x1, 1/2 UNEF28, 1/2UNF20, 5/8UNF18 and more.

Thinking about it I am sure the AI is actually M18x1 and the Moderator to MB is the M18x1.5

David,
MF 18 x 1,5. (M only means M18x2,50).....Like the old engines spark plugs....LOL

Reading about AI and metrics should made someone here quite angry....no?

Robert, AI are yet to fully embrace metrication despite SI units being formally introduced at the same time as Accuracy International were formed.

Here in the UK the convention if in doubt is usually to specify the pitch as opposed to 'MF' - so much for cross border standards..
