1987 Semi-Automatic rifle ban

#1 Post by HALODIN »

Hello,

Just curious what semi-auto rifles were people shooting before the 1987 semi-auto ban? Anything interesting? Could you own something like a Bren Gun back then if it's full auto capability was crippled? Just curious what the world of shooting was like back then...

Cheers,

Craig.

Started off with a 7.62 AR-10 for £250!

Not the best thing in the world but by removing a screw and a bit of aluminium bar it could be set to full auto! (not that I ever did such a thing!).

Sold it and bought a Ruger Mini-14 (horrible thing!) and was saving up for a very nice Heckler & Koch HK93 when the ban came in :bad:

Cool, the AR10 is an important part of firearm history. Nice rifle!

The HK93 would probably have been on my shopping list as well. :good:

What other exciting rifles were available back then?

Back then I was only doing Pistols but a Friend had a Bren and a Sten. Think the change lever was just welded to prevent full auto.If my memory serves me right, I think they were even selling MMGs like the Vickers. (Pat Walker Guns????).

Strathclyde Police tried to confiscate them but he went to court and won his case. Of course he lost them after Hungerford.

H&K 630 .223 Sporter - incredibly accurate but destroyed cases with its' fluted chamber. It also ejected cases almost as far as the bullets went.
Purveyor of fine cast boolits.
All round good guy and VERY grumpy old man.

Pat Walker!!! There's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time...

Walked into his shop to see six crates of Galils sitting on the floor. I always reckoned he strayed over a very fine line, but did so as an enthusiast, not a criminal. Used to make me laugh....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Wow, this is like dreaming about winning the lottery. G3's, Brens, Stens, SLR's and Vickers MG's... OMFG :o

Sounds like absolute bliss... party2

Did anyone own a Lewis Gun?
