Badger ponders: a tunnel gun ...

#1 Post by meles meles »

Having just read this article http://www.zjstech.net/gunstuff/k31tanker.html on a K31 being cut down to a carbine, we're wondering if such a conversion could be done to provide a short carbine in 7.62x39 or even a pistol calibre, say 9mm or 45 ACP. Could be a useful little tunnel gun...

Neat conversion , just goes to show what can be achieved without all the proper tools . So this going to be your project for the BLA [ Badger liberation Army ] main battle weapon against those who are carrying out the culls .

Carbines are fun, :shakeshout: but unless its already been hacked up or needs a new barrel I wouldn't convert a perfectly good milsurp.

As far as carbines are concerned, I can recommend the 9mm Destroyer, Steyr M95 (8x56R) and the Carcano M91/28TS - no conversion work required!

We like the idea of re-barreling a shot out K31 with a nice stainless barrel for 7.62x39. A very high rate of fire could be obtained if AK47 magazines would fit...

The 6.5x52mm cartridge of the Carcano has a similar rim dimension to the 7.62x39...

Oh ? So we might be able to pop 7.62x39 through a modified Carcano ?

I'm sure I've read that it has been done and I know that the 7.62x39 fits the en-bloc clips for the Carcano - I've checked, just in case! ;)

Edit: I must admit of all my carbines the Carcano is my least favourite - not because there's anything wrong with it but compared to the Steyr and the Destroyer it's just lacking 'wow' factor for me.
