The joy of Devcon

A couple of months ago, I bought a barreled action off Guntrader. I bought it unseen kukkuk but the seller had credentials, and the barrel had provenance, so I thought it worth a punt.................and I was badly in need of a “project”.
It's a Musgrave action fitted with a 31” Lothar 8 twist barrel in 6BR Norma, chambered for SMK107's. Trigger is RPA 2-stage match.
I had an old walnut match 54 stock, so I decided to try and fit 'em together. I had never attempted anything like this before, so I Googled “pillar bedding”and off I went.
What followed was a weekend of chiselling, and obscenities, punctuated by application of plasters to chiselled fingers, and ending with hysterically trying to clean Devcon from hair, eyebrows, skin, trousers, kitchen floor, and an armchair.................
But despite some compromises with the trigger assy, it all fitted together..............and it didn't look half bad with the Sightron on top.
The first outing coincided with our fortnightly shoot, which happened to be an F-class target at 1000 yds. So I bore-sighted it, and fired a couple of previously loaded rounds on the Zero range with the Magnetospeed. I used Litz's app to get an elevation, and then off to Stickledown.
The very first shot hit the board just outside the black at 2 o'clock :shakeshout:
The next ten were 3v's, 4 5's and 2 4's. All in all, a result.............
The bolt was stiff to close on a new case, and it transpired that the extractor claw was chewing the case head, and there was a bit of steel swarf jammed in the groove.
A bit of fettling with a Dremel, and it now chambers/extracts smoothly.

Very satisfying and great fun.

The whole project stood me a shade under 600 squid. Getting four holes drilled/tapped for the scope rail made my eyes water.....£70 + vat !!!
They appear to be pretty much in line with the bore axis though.

Boy, do I miss the Research Labs modelshop..........

I made the mistake of letting the girlfriend have a go so she could compare it with her 308 :cool2: : ....................after a very tight group, she was quick to point out that there's half a tin of Devcon left................. her variation went in yesterday.

I do receiver drill and tap in a mill and it can be quite a time consuming job to set up and do properly plus you have the added joy of dealing with some very tough material.

You need a variation for Devcon??

I know your going to get one for Maggie!! Or she's only going to rob yours on every outing. I think Stuart might have a 6br savage barrel on the shelf. Just unscrew the 308 install 6br and your bangbang zzzzom all day long :shakeshout:
