chopping a fluted barrel?

#1 Post by shotgun sam »

My uncle has a Remington 700 with a long fluted barrel which when the T8 is on it is very front heavy. Are fluted barrels suitable for being chopped and re threaded?

Our club has a Ruger with a fluted barrel that's been cut down, so I assume it's fine.

Can't really think of any reason why it wouldn't be. A gunsmith will soon tell you if he doesn't think it's a bright idea.

plenty of short, effective screw on mods on the market that don't hang back over the barrel, no need to go cutting down a perfectly good barrel.
