M14 EBR Straight Pull - Scope

Thanks for the post and nice rifles!

I've been digging further and I'm considering the Vortex Viper 4-12x40 or the Vortex razor which is really nice! However, I've found something I really, really like... the Weaver Superslam 4-20x50, but it's more than I wanted to spend. I had a look through one the other day and the clarity and the build quality was spectacular. Whilst the objective is 50mm, which is bigger than I wanted, I'll put up with it.



The 1.5-6x24 is really nice as well!

+1 for Vortex scopes - for the money I think they are hard to beat (look nice too!). I love my MRAD scopes - no faffing about having to convert Mil into MOA or anything like that! Just shoot a group, adjust using the reticle and hey presto! on target (wind allowing!)

Here's the Viper 6-24x50 MRAD ffp on my .308 Remi

and a Vortex 1-4x24 TMCQ MRAD scope on my AR.

The .308 shot this group last Saturday @ 100M on Short Siberia
10 rounds (.168g SMK- 41g TR140, PPU brass, Federal 210 primer) I deliberately pulled the last shot right as I was getting worried I wasn't hitting the target! (target is in 1" squares)

The .223 shot this group with some experimental .77g SMK handloads (the targets 3" wide)
Not too shabby using just a X4 scope no bipod (just resting off my elbows).

Glad you like it! I should record the noise it makes when you let the charging handle fly forward, it makes a lovely pinging noise.

I know tell me about it. I want an AI AX308, but god knows when I'll get one. What's next on your list?

I can live with that, at least you didn't call me a peckerhead...

I've got the illuminated reticle on my Sightmark and I quite like it, but I don't want it on this one, it would spoil the lines of the scope. It's a bit like a beautiful woman with a massive mole on the side of her head, it's better without it.

I haven't decided yet. I'd love an Elcan Specter DR 1-4X or perhaps some HWS with an Aimpoint x3 magnifier and a LaRue LT755-30T magnifier mount. I'd prefer a scope, but it depends how accurate the rifle is. It only has a 12" barrel. I have some troy battle sights to go on it initially and then I'll make a decision I guess.

Thanks and not too unreasonably priced either... I think I'm pretty set on the Weaver SUPER SLAM Eurostyle 4-20x50 scope though, so much so, I went to have another look at one... Beautifully bright crystal clear optics which frankly made the Leupold look sub standard and it is A1 build quality to boot. All I need now is to find £940 and the willpower to hand it over...

Sorry to ask something slightly off topic but does the M14 have a similar action to the M1 Garand and have you had any extraction issues. I would love one of these and also a straight pull Garand but I believe the main stumbling block is primary extraction.
