I think we need to gather all the AK's and VZ58's in one location for a range day. (as not all members have clearance for Bisely etc we could use somewhere like SevernSide or Minesterly)

Sounds like a good plan, could open it up to Saiga/Vepr12 as well.......Might even drag the Dragunov along as well :)
Ohhh now I like the sound of that.

Will make me want a Dragunov even more lol.....

I managed to download the rounds for my AKM using 6 grains of powder which comes in well within the indoor range limits. It always draws the looks when you get it off the rack, I guess people don't think you can shoot them indoors !

Cool! I look forward to helping you test it... fingerscrossed

Do they expect you to use a laser bore sight on the rifle before you can shoot it? I didn't have to do that with my M14 or the FAL.

Bloody tree huggers! bangbang

It's because it's now scoped - admittedly low mag - but unlike irons, there's no reference to the line of the barrel etc.

...and yes, you'll definitely get some range time with it.

OK that's fair enough. Good man! clapclap

Are you going this Friday and/or Sunday? My ST-22 was put together today... I should have it by Friday with a bit of luck. :shakeshout:

Those mags look similar in shape to AK74 mags.

I wonder if 5.45mm mags will fit...................

5.45x39 (AK-74) mags can be modified to feed 5.56/.223 by fitting a 5.56/.223 follower and fettling the top of the mag to match the profile of the .223 mag, and then they will only feed 20 rounds reliably due to the difference in curvature.
I would hazard a guess that the 30 round steel mags in the pic have been modified by welding a lip at the front of the mag as Saigas normally lack the feed ramp that allows the use of milspec mags.To use AK-74 mags a feed ramp would be a must.Bulgaria do some nice 5.56 mags if you can find them :)

The man knows his stuff.

Yeah, the steel mags have have a small lip welded on, to match the civilian Saiga mags. Export spec Saiga's don't have the bullet guide / feed ramp installed on the trunion from the factory and instead have an equivalent integral to each magazine. As AK100 series mags seem easier (and cheaper) to get hold of, I'm going that route.

Yeah, I'll be down Friday. Hope your Spike's has arrived by then. fingerscrossed

The range is closed for Remembrance Sunday though, so no more Saiga for me until the 17th.
