Re: New Ak :)
I think they all come in via Germany as both of mine have "Waffen Schu" on the .My AKM came with the Soviet Bakelite grip but I changed it for an early production laminated grip, also have a type 1 AKM bayonet for it.The AKMS has laminated Soviet handguards and a genuine type 3 AK-47 laminated grip which is a bit thicker than the later AKM version.I did have a POSP on the AKM but the Romanian siderail mount aren't the best and when zeroed at 100m the reticule was way over to the left so I just shoot it with the iron sights.lasbrisas wrote:My AKM is exactly the same as yours except I have the bakelite grip, rifle came from Germany, put a 100 rounds through it at Bisley yesterday at 100yds. I'm thinking of getting a POSP scope for it, have shot it to 200yds and 300yds before, also use downloaded homeloads for indoors.

Interesting what you say about the scope, will have to think about that one then as I don't want to waste money.snayperskaya wrote:I think they all come in via Germany as both of mine have "Waffen Schu" on the .My AKM came with the Soviet Bakelite grip but I changed it for an early production laminated grip, also have a type 1 AKM bayonet for it.The AKMS has laminated Soviet handguards and a genuine type 3 AK-47 laminated grip which is a bit thicker than the later AKM version.I did have a POSP on the AKM but the Romanian siderail mount aren't the best and when zeroed at 100m the reticule was way over to the left so I just shoot it with the iron sights.lasbrisas wrote:My AKM is exactly the same as yours except I have the bakelite grip, rifle came from Germany, put a 100 rounds through it at Bisley yesterday at 100yds. Re: New Ak :)
The scope was still usable and the siderail mount on another rifle may well be ok, just wasn't happy with mine.It is possible to shim the mount on the actually scope if the reticle does end up too far over.It can sometimes happen because on most Russian optics the windage and elevation turrets move the reticle to the image not the image to the reticle like Western optics, if that makes sense.I have a POSP mounted on the SVDS and had one on a Saiga and when zeroed the reticle on both was pretty much central in the sight picture so I was being fussy more than anything

Yes - shims are what the Russians do.
I have seen POSP mounts with what looks like little blobs of solder on the inside face of the mount.
Looks like the added blobs of weld / solder and then filed down until they were happy.
That was on a batch of SVDs straight from Ukraine stockpile.

Re: New Ak :)
I got the AKMS home yesterday, spent some time removing all the Cosmoline and decided to change out the Romanian rear sight for a Soviet one I had spare and fitted the correct laminated pistol grip that Soviet AKMS's had.I just need to lay my hands on a Soviet stamped stock and i'll be happy.

Re: New Ak :)
I am waiting for a variation to come back and then I can collect my AKMS too :) I have a Bulgarian stamped stock ready to go on but need the working parts for it. As I understand it I can fit it with the Romanian bits but it just won't look quite right.
Let us know how you get on with the rifle. Did you fit a side rail on it?

Re: New Ak :)
I believe the Soviet and Bulgarian stocks have to be modified slightly to fit the Romanian locking mechanism as they sit pretty straight from the rear of the receiver when unfolded whereas the Romanian stock slopes down at an angle, plus the Soviet and Bulgarian locking mechanism locks on both arms whereas the Romanian one only locks on the lefthand arm like the early AKS-47 stocks did. They are plenty of guides on how to modify them on the net.I didn't go with a siderail as I prefer to shoot my AKs with the iron sights, though my AKM has a siderail.Where did you get your stamped stock from If you don't mind me asking.Swifty Boy wrote:I am waiting for a variation to come back and then I can collect my AKMS too :) I have a Bulgarian stamped stock ready to go on but need the working parts for it.
