Opinion needed on these please.

#1 Post by bnz41 »

Having a spare slot on my FAC for 7.62x39 and not wanting the AK style of rifle.

Found a Ruger Mini 30 straight pull in 7.62x39 does anyone own one, used one, or have an opinion. Should I spend my money, (asking price £400) or stay well clear.

Thanks.

I had no idea these were manufactured in anything other than .223!

If you are a Member or your club has a booking at Bisley, the NRA has one (NRA rack no 80) that you might like to hire for a try.

This is one true love / hate rifle, many people have fallen in love with them and spent much money and time trying to get them to shoot without success.

The general belief has always been that the 7.62 ranch rifles were more accurate than the .223 versions but you are still looking at a light plinker. If that is all you want, a plinker that shoots cheap ammunition and needs very little maintenance, then definitely have a go with one. If your looking for MOA out to 600 yards, probably not the place to spend your cash.

As Dangermouse said, you either love em or hate em.

For £400, I don't think you can go too wrong, they can be very reliable, and pretty accurate.
If you buy it and you like it, there is plenty aftermarket toys available for them.

No experience of the Ruger but I know that there are some Enfields floating around in 7.62x39 if you wanted another option.
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

wtfwtf

They have been/were made in a couple of calibers aside from 223

The 7.62x39 is still on the books, but the 6.8SPC version was dropped a little time back

Not a bad choice, but ONLY as a donor action to rebarrel into a very handy 6.8SPC carbine

The Mini 30, can also be easily converted to 6.5mm Grendel

Thank you for your replies,

I was looking for something for general plinking out to 300m but not a standard bolt action like the CZ.

I did not think of the Australian Enfield as they have not had a very good reports. Sorry meles think you own one.

Been searching for scope rings and looking at vortex scopes if I decide to buy the Ruger.
